SOLIDARITY ACTION THIS MONDAY – El Salvador VS Pacific Rim

People in El Salvador have asked for solidarity in their continued resistance to Canadian mining.
North – South Solidarity and Accountability for Vancouver Corporations!
Come join us for a couple of click-click*s – A Photo Op!
When :   THIS MONDAY DECEMBER 17  –  12noon
Where:  outside Pacific Rim’s Office:   625 Howe Street (at Dunsmuir), Vancouver
Wear a business suit that you are willing to take off, and underwear or pajamas underneath!
The Vancouver based mining company PACIFIC RIM is suing the country of El Salvador for lost potential future profits, because they haven’t been granted full permits to extract!    As we see it, this is an attempt by a private company to make the people of El Salvador pay for the company’s own bad business.
The country has already lost millions in the legal fight against this Vancouver company.  Water, fertile land and stable incomes are all scarce in El Salvador.  The Lempa watershed, where Pacific Rim aims to operate, feeds water to over half of the country’s population. Mining-related water depletion and pollution would be devastating.
Between 2009-2011 four environmental activists who were opposing Pacific Rim were killed, one of them was pregnant and holding her 2 year old daughter, who was wounded while her mother was murdered.
More plunder of the south to make the rich in the north richer makes no sense at all.
Salvadorans have been remarkable in their preventative actions opposing both the Pacific Rim mine and Goldcorp’s Cerro Blanco – which would run polluted water from Guatemala into El Salvador.
Its time to tell Pacific Rim to DROP THE SUIT!
Please show up in a suit, ready to take it off and drop it. We will use the group photo in a poster/online campaign in solidarity with the people resisting Pacific Rim in El Salvador.
Sincerely,
The Mining Justice Alliance
